I went on this strange mission to rethink art and the masters of it weren’t do tied to Europe. What if without smallpox the Spanish lost in 1521 that decimated as much as 90% population indigenous peoples in Mesoamérica and beyond. If without genocide due to smallpox, North and South America might not have stopped colonization but the West and the Americas would have completely different culture and would have fundamentally changed what we see as art today. I think only through looking into the diffusion can humanity answer these questions.
If you take away the tomato from Warhol. If the superheroes were more Carmen and less Captain. If the cartel leaders in GTA were from Virginia. If impressionism was mixed with talaveras, huichol and mola styles. If the monarchies never needed to raid Africa to enslave for profit. This is what this series explores.
